This could be the biggest thing to come out of 2017 Cannes Film Festival; Netflix have won negotiations to turn the Twitter-dreamed story about Rihanna and Lupito Nyong’o playing a pair of genius scammers into an actual movie.

If you’re not familiar with the Twitter sensation, let me get you up to speed. A meme was basically created after a photo of Rihanna and Lupita taken in 2014 at a Miu Miu fashion show went viral. Twitter users created their own story based on this photo saying things like, “Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and Lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scans”.

Twitter users even requested Ava DuVernay direct the film and Issa Rae to write it, with both women indicating their interest with return Tweets along with Rihanna and Lupita.

As a result, Ava will direct the forthcoming Netflix film and Issa will write the script.
Sources say Issa is already working on the script but there’s no word on how faithful she’ll stay to the original Twitter-created plot.
Rihanna’s outfit choice for her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival also added to Twitter authors’ excitement.

Sources also say that Netflix is aiming for production to commence 2018 after Ava completes her current film.
