World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao will be coming to Australia in July to defend his current title against promising local Jeff Horn.
The bout, which is scheduled for 2 July, will take place at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane. The fight is expected to bring 55,000 boxing fans from around Australia and the world into Suncorp Stadium and $15.8 million into the Queensland economy.
38-year-old Pacquiao is one of the most celebrated boxers in the WBO with a record of 59-6-2 and 11 world championships under his welterweight belt. His opponent, 29-year-old Jeff Horn, has a record of 16-0-1 but is pumped and confident that he can take on the boxing superstar.
“Pacquiao and his managers sound a bit confident and cocky”, Horn said.
“It’s like ‘we will just take this fight, come to Brisbane, knock over Jeff Horn, make their millions and go do the [English boxer Amir] Khan fight’. I hope he keeps feeling that way.”
“I never thought Pacquiao would still be around when I got my world title shot … This is my chance to make a name for myself.”
