The 2020 Olympics in Tokyo are set to include a 3-on-3 basketball event and LeBron James has told reporters he won’t be competing.
We would all assume his reasons for sitting out would be his age, he’ll be 35 by then, and he may want the offseason to rest up. But the King himself has come out and admitted he’s not very good at 3-on-3 matchups and prefers playing full-strength basketball.
“I’m not very good in a 3-on-3 thing, I’m more of a 5-on-5,” he said. “I stay out of the 1-on-1 matchups during our practice, the 2-on-2s and the 3-on-3s. So probably not. I probably won’t be a part of the 3-on-3 matchup that it has to offer.”
Although we respect his humility, we very much doubt LeBron is “not very good”. He does believe the 3-on-3 Olympic event is good for the sport, however.
