LaVar Ball and his basketball-star son Lonzo unveiled their signature sneaker, the ZO2 Prime, just a few short days ago after major endorsement brands Nike, adidas and Under Armour cut talks of deals with Lonzo. The younger Ball is tipped to be a prized pick in the 2017 NBA season draft later this year, so the Balls instead decided to release sneakers through their own company, Big Baller Brand.

The sneakers were met with interest by many until they saw the retailing price: $495 for the ZO2 Prime. Its gets worse; the ZO2 Wet is a sneaker personally signed by Lonzo but is priced at $995. The ZO2 collection are some of the most expensive sneakers out there and social media users were quick to point that out.

LaVar was quick to defend the prices of the sneaker, or rather his thinking behind the pricing.

“I figured that’s what the shoe was worth. I liked the way it sounds. You see, when you are your own owner, you can come up with any price you want,” he said on ESPN’s ‘The Dan Le Batard Show’ on Friday.

If you have a spare $500 lying around, the ZO2 collection is available for ordering now on the Big Baller Brand website.
