Last November, adidas gave away 1,000 pairs of the ADV EQT at Art Basel in Miami. A lawsuit has since been filed by organizers of the event who claim adidas used Art Basel’s trademark without their permission.

Art Basel is an international art fair with annual shows in Basel, Switzerland; Miami beach, Florida; and Hong Kong.

The Fashion Law spotted Art Basel’s trademark used on the sneaker’s tongue (seen below) and packaging.

The filing alleges the adidas sneakers’ use of Art Basel branding portrays “association, show partnership, sponsorship or other affiliation between Plaintiffs [Art Basel] and adidas” – there was no official partnership between adidas and Art Basel.

Claims brought by Plaintiffs MCH Swiss Exhibition LTD. and Art Basel U.S. Corp. include infringement of a federally registered trademark and false designation of origin.
